Miles And Mussels 11- Colorado River, Garwood To Glen Flora

Location Address:     FM 960 Bridge at Glen Flora, Texas

Brief (one sentence) description:  Paddle 26.5 miles on the Colorado River, from Garwood to Glen Flora.  This is all below I-10 and is in the Colorado portion of the Columbia Bottomlands.

Full description:  Paddle 26.5 miles or more on the Colorado River between Garwood and Glen Flora.  This is all below I-10 and is in the Colorado portion of the Columbia Bottomlands.  Distance is stated as “or more” because it scales at 26.2 miles, but GPS lines have tended to be more like 27.5.  The intention is to start early, paddle hard, and stop regularly to look for mussels and other items of interest.  There are no known hazards on this stretch of the Colorado, beyond the usual moving water things, like snags and sweepers.  The put in will be at Garwood at the FM 950 bridge.  Note that both the put in and take out are fairly steep.

Skill Level:  I’m going to say Novice.  You have to be able to handle a boat on moving water, and the little rapids do require an ability to read the river, but nothing there is really hazardous.
