Miles And Mussels #8, Brazos River FM 1093 Or FM 1489 To Tony Becerra Park In Rosenberg

FULL DESCRIPTION:
This stretch of river is either 22 miles or 30 miles depending on whether we start at 1093 (longer) or 1489 (shorter).  This stretch contains a number of interesting Rocky Shoals, the last bumpy area on the river, and a few other rocky shelves and coarse sediment areas.  We will use the usual technique of paddling it roughly in thirds with breaks to mill around on sandbars and interesting areas along the way.  Doing the long version would complete the river from 290 to US 59, for those with perfect attendance.

LOCATION:

Meet at Tony Becerra Park on Avenue A in Rosenberg

FEES:
For any current ACA (American Canoe Association) member, no fees.
For anyone who is not a current ACA member, there is a $5 "Event Membership" to cover insurance expenses

SKILL LEVEL:
Novice -
Generally flat water, but substantial miles.  Could be a few bumpy spots, including Rocky Shoals, which was considered a mandatory portage on the old Race on the Brazos.  I’ve never had any problem paddling it though
