Saturday's trip will be a modest circumnavigation of Sheldon Lake, with a putin at the Garrett Road gravel parking lot. Mileage will be about 4 miles. Expect to see nesting birds arriving to their island areas and at the edges of the park migrating birds will be making stops on their spring voyages north and east. The resident bald eagle may be visible too, and if it's warm enough the alligators will be cruising.
The Garrett Road access area is easily accessed from east Beltway 8 ; Garrett Road is a labeled exit and you will head east on Garrett just past the intersection with Pineland Road; pull into the gravel parking area to the right just after the Pineland Road intersection and the crossing of Carpenter Bayou.
Bring a light lunch, plenty of drinking water or prefered liquid. We may lunch at the State Park which is just east of the lake during or after our paddle.
You must wear your PFD (life jacket), hats and sunscreen recommended. If you do not have a signed waiver on record, you will be required to sign one. If you are not a member of both Houston Canoe Club and American Canoe Association, a $5 fee will be assessed.
Any questions, please email me (texwiest@gmail.com) by Friday late evening. I will look forward to seeing you at the putin!
