Miles and Mussels 15: Brazos River FM 529 to FM 1458

This is a 14.5 mile paddle on the Brazos River.  This section contains some good flows but no rapids.  Usually excellent fossil hunting on the bars and a number of freshwater mussel species.  The current is pretty good except for the last roughly three miles, where it gets a bit pond-like, and there are quite a number of interesting sand bars to stop on but they may be largely submerged, due to high water of late..   Note that since the river is still fairly high and pushy it could be a challenge at the put in and the take out.  Otherwise, should be no issues.

Meet at FM 1458 Bridge on the Brazos, San Felipe, TX

Skill Level:  Intermediate.  Generally flat water, and for one of these paddles, not overly long.  Upgrading trip due to distance, high water and challenging launch/landing site.  No real on the water issues, other than potential for some strong eddies and boils.
