 Speaker:    Bill Dupre’
 Description:

  Bill Dupre’

Bill Dupre’ wasn’t born in Texas, however at 6 months old, he came as soon as he could!  His strong interest in the outdoors and environmental issues began in the early 1960’s and continues to the present.  He left Houston to study geology and hydrology at the University of Texas and then Stanford University, followed by two years teaching at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He returned to Houston to teach at the University of Houston, where he has been for the past 42 years. He is presently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. He has also worked part-time for the US Geological Survey, including the Environmental, Alaska, Water Resources, Marine Geology, and Western Mineral Resources Branches. He is married and has two married sons (both Eagle scouts!) and two granddaughters. Since returning to Houston, he has been a Cub and Boy Scout leader, on the boards of the Houston Geological Society and Bayou Preservation Association, and most recently, giving talks throughout the Houston region on flooding in SE Texas, precipitated by Hurricane Harvey.

He will be talking on what controls the landforms and flow characteristics associated with rivers, as seen from the perspective of a geologist/hydrologist. He will end with a segment he calls “Ask the River Doc”, where he will answer some questions selected from a long list submitted by a club member. He also encourages the audience to ask questions throughout his talk!

Be sure to set this date aside on your calendar, then come out and support your club.
