HomeNL-2015-09 Lillian Tigard

Lillian Marion Foote Tigard
1938-2015

Lillian was born in Boston on December 28, 1938 to Dr. Stephen and Lucy Dell Foote. She passed away on August 19, 2015 surrounded by those she loved.

Lillian was a woman of spirit and adventure who never found a challenge she was not willing to face and conquer. She solo canoed the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon in her late 50's, having to learn to Eskimo roll a canoe to qualify for the trip. She won the National Freestyle Canoe Championship after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She became a certified Master Gardener and her beautiful home gardens were featured on the Sugar Land Garden Tour.

She was loved and admired by many: a hard working mother who raised her children with aplomb. She was an accomplished administrator, canoeist, gardener and student of life. Always quick to help others or volunteer her services. She was quick to laugh, quick to smile and quick to love. She left with no regrets.

She is survived by her husband Chester B. Tigard, daughter Christy Barthelme Blackburn; and her children Addison and Bailey, daughter Susan Barthelme Bierschwale and her husband Glenn, her son Peter Barthelme and Rachelle Lejeune.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Friday, the 28th of August at 4:00pm at Saint Agnes Academy, 9000 Bellaire Blvd.
