HCC’s 50th Anniversary Planning Committee’s Activities

April, 2014
by Honey Leveen

HCC’s 50th anniversary party planning committee is busy working to create an especially memorable year for HCC members and friends. Our committee met at 5:30 PM on April 9, 2014, before our regular meeting.
I want to give special thanks to Janice and Fraser Baker, new member April Matteis, Natalie Wiest, Mark Andrus, Joe Coker, and Bruce Bodson for attending the planning meeting.
We need you! Please come to our next planning meeting at 5:30 PM on May 14, 2014, in the same room where we have our general meeting. Bring your enthusiasm, and if you’re hungry, bring your own brown bag dinner.

Our biggest accomplishment at this month’s planning meeting was creating a budget for the party. We will take the budget to HCC’s board for a vote in May, and then to the general membership.

We are still in the process of compiling names of honored guests and former members, as well as retail and non-profit partners to invite.
Save this Date: October 11, 2014!

HCC’s 50th Anniversary bash will be held Saturday, October 11th - mark your calendars! The venue is the Bay Area Community Center in Clear Lake Park in Seabrook on Mud Lake, just downstream from Armand Bayou.

The facility will hold over 400 people. It has a full commercial kitchen, bayou access and plenty of parking.
The 50th Anniversary Committee plans to invite current and former club members, the media, other paddling clubs, and politicians to the big event. We hope for an attendance of about 200.
Party events will include a 50 boat flotilla decorated with special HCC 50th anniversary flags, catered BBQ, a special commemorative program, raffle and/or silent auction, and music.
Additional 50th Anniversary Events

Special HCC 50th anniversary logo-printed Custom apparel is now available at prices from $15-25 per shirt. The logo was donated to HCC by our long-time member, Ann Derby. You may choose just about any type of apparel you can imagine (long-sleeve and short-sleeve, crew-neck and v-neck T-shirts, hoodies, etc.) in almost any color. We have large and small logos, located above the breast or right in the middle of the garment, on the front or back. Logos can also be embroidered. You can even provide your own shirt upon which to have the logo applied, as long as it is 100% cotton. Call me at 713-988-4671 or 713-447-6197 (cell) for further info.

Commemorative Waterline Stories
In addition to the party and custom logo apparel, you will notice monthly special commemorative Waterline stories written by long-term HCC or former HCC members. The stories will describe HCC’s history and include reminiscences.
