Greens Bayou

Six HCC members - Dave Kitson, David Jacobs, Sherri Blifford, Paul Woodcock, Gary & Judy Toche (new HCC members), and Will Blumentritt - met Saturday morning March 30 at the Taco Cabana near Greens Bayou Park for breakfast and paddle. At breakfast, Dave was talking about looking for the Bald Eagles on the bayou. Sure enough, the younger Eagle was visible on the way upstream and the adult was there on the way downstream! The nest was massive.

The weather couldn’t have been better. While there were SSE winds, the trees provided decent blockage for the most part. We planned to turn around at the Wallisville bridge, but several of us went on a little ways past Highway 90. On the way back, we stopped on the island just south of the Woodforest bridge for a lunch break.

The total trip came out to 9.9 miles.

The night before, I had really scoped out the Google satellite images of the upper parts of the Greens Bayou – especially from East Mt. Houston Road on down.  I really would like to take an exploratory trip down from there in the next month or two. Let me know if you’re interested
