Buffalo Bayou Closure Continues
Jan. 22, 2013
by Louis Aulbach & Linda Gorski

For those of us who enjoy paddling Buffalo Bayou from Woodway to downtown in these pleasant days of winter, the closure of the bayou to boat traffic continues. Although the announcement by the Harris County Flood Control District in November indicated that the closure would be lifted by the end of 2012, as of January 22, it was still in effect. See the story here: Harris County Flood Control District Cautions Buffalo Bayou Kayakers, Canoeists

Linda Gorski and I walked down to the construction zone to see what was happening. The two pictures enclosed in this article show (1) the signage on Memorial Drive near the Police Officer's Memorial, and (2) the area of the bayou under construction.

The full story of the improvements to the bayou that are underway can be seen in the Buffalo Bayou Partnership's newsletter: Buffalo Bayou Park - E-Newsletter

Since the BBP is promoting its Buffalo Bayou Regatta on March 16, it seems that the construction causing the bayou closure may be complete by that date. Let's hope so. I'd like to do a trip through there by then!

More info on the regatta can be found here: Buffalo Bayou Regatta
