First, thank you Mary Zaborowski and Paul Woodcock for your extreme congeniality on this outing. Mary brought her touches like providing comfort food, seating and interesting conversation. There was no doubt of her ability to engender companionship and make known our presence to the volunteer community. Paul's presence was like stepping into the way-back machine and meeting your old Scoutmaster. Paul, with a
kind and gentle mind, told
great stories that
demonstrated his outdoor knowledge.
The day began early with Mary explaining the itinerary and logistics of our efforts. I started to meet everyone from the club and knew immediately they were there for fun. They really went out of their way to make friends with me.
Our work started, in unison, patrolling Stubblefield Lake. There were many stranded lines, aluminum cans and paper rubbish to be had. We all filled at least two garbage bags.
Members educated me to the lake and rivers in the area. I was grateful for their conversation and learned many things about Texas waterways along with our club's past good works.
Sadly, I left the event early feeling on the ride home that I was missing a chance to create more great memories and friendships.
I encourage my fellow members to not hesitate in communicating with trip or event leaders.
Participate, observe and internalize Nature. Take note of our member's leadership and people skills. Above all, learn the waterways.
