HOUSTON CANOE CLUB GENERAL MEETING
August 10th, 2011
Bayland Park Community Center
Recorder: John Ohrt

Commodore Ken McDowell called the meeting to order and introduced the officers.

Boatswain Honey Leveen introduced guests and new members.

Paul Woodcock gave a Safety Minute on the importance of visibility.

Recorder John Ohrt reviewed the minutes of the July general meeting which were accepted as read.

Purser Harmon Everett gave the financial report

Newsletter editor John Rich said to keep the great articles and photos coming.

Conservation Chair John Bartos discussed a disappointing decision by the TCEQ regarding freshwater inflow levels to Galveston Bay. They were lower than hoped for. Both John Bartos and Louis Aulbach are members of the Devils River working group trying to improve access and camping opportunities on that river.

Fleet Captain Paul Woodcock gave the trip report.

Past trips included a moonlight trip to Oyster Creek, a morning trip to Armand Bayou, a Lake Charlotte trip which included the Mud Lake to Miller Lake route through the cypress forest, and a trip to the San Marcos.

Upcoming trips included the annual three day Labor Day weekend campout on the Sabine River and the October Paddlefest. As always, please check the web site and contact trip coordinators for information on upcoming trips.

The program was a power point presentation by member Christy Long on the San Marcos River.  Because it is spring fed it has reliable water and temperature all year round.

The meeting was adjourned.

Recorder, John Ohrt
