Buffalo Bayou channelization
Mark
I was disappointed a Chronicle editorial this morning supported the channelization of Buffalo Bayou in Memorial Park. It would destroy one of the few places (if not only) where you can get away from the city presence in the middle of the city. The point of the whole thing seems to be that River Oaks County Club does not want to lose land to the park when the bayou meanders and contractors want a project to make money off it. It is said to be an improved channelization but it would probably ruin that section the bayou anyway including the sand beach.

Here's the link to the article to which Mark refers:
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/opinion/editorials/article/Bayou-repair-11148017.php

Quote: "Land alongside Memorial Park, the city's crown jewel of green space, can't be left to erode at a clip. The goal of improving nature's long-term health justifies a short-term, environmentally judicious disruption."

I notice that the author-coward didn't bother identifying himself...
