There are bills before the legislature to offer a constitutional amendment to force the allocation of 100% of the 1993 sporting goods sales tax to state parks and historical sites. That was the original promise, but 60% has been siphoned into the general fund, to make up for the deficits resulting from tax cuts.
If you want proper funding for our parks, please tell your state rep and senator to support and co-sponsor HJR 39 and HB 1214 (House), and SJR 24 and SB 526 (Senate). If you don't know who represents you, google "Who represents me?".
This will be our only chance for the next two years to get the promised revenue for our shamefully under-funded parks.
