BUFFALO RIVER Paddle, 10/18 to 10/23
Author Last Post
The water is UP !!!!!

The BUFFALO RIVER Paddle, 10/18 to 10/23 trip is going.  It rained today, and we expect more rain on Friday.  If anyone wants to join us …. come on (we've had some cancellations ☺).

The near-term forecast shows tomorrow (and it’s already raining there, tonight), with some good rain possible on 10/19 (90% & 8/10ths in.).  That would be even better than what the area got last week, and it produced a 4 or 5-day water surge.

I propose that we plan Thursday, 10/18 to be our travel day.  (Some may not get here until Saturday.  We’ll adjust as needed!!)  From Houston, Kyle Put In is about 11+ hours of travel.  Since I’m coming from Arkansas (Hot Springs area), I can’t help you with that planning.  I propose that y’all work out travel arrangements and carpools amongst yourselves.  We’ll meet at Kyle’s Landing on Thursday evening.  I expect to get there pretty early, and should have one of our preferred campsites “booked” and paid.  Let’s plan to stay at Kyle at least two nights (and watch water levels and plan the rest of the trip) (maybe pgs 4 or 5 of Kent’s package, attached).  Notice that the weather will be getting colder.  Plan for some low-30° nights, and some cool days on the water.

Friday and Saturday will most likely be Ponca-to-Kyle and Kyle-to-Pruitt.  Monday and Tuesday will be figured out, onsite ?!?

Food is going to be hard to coordinate (especially if we do some river camping).  I suggest that we fend for ourselves, and eating on the shuttles (restaurants), whenever that works.  (If anyone cares to take on this food planning, please speak up ).  I’ll have both a camp-stove and a river-stove, and several Mountain House meals.
