We hope you'll join us on September 12, 7 PM, at Bayland Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet, for what is sure to be a fun meeting!
We are in for a treat this month! Our speaker is Beth Johnson. Some of you will recall Beth from a year or so ago. This time she'll tell us about a different, very daring, bold trip.
In 2003, Beth Johnson organized an exciting "passage to the interior" with three fellow Texans to paddle 436 miles of Alaska's Noatak River from near its source deep in the Brooks Range's vast grandeur to its mouth at Chukchi Sea tidewater on Alaska's west coast.
Beth is back for an encore presentation after last year's Yukon Wild presentation about her 1982 three-month, 2,000-mile canoe trip down the length of the Yukon River through Canada and Alaska. Beth will autograph and sell copies of her 1984 collector's-item "Yukon Wild" book ($25, 400 pages), as well as a 50-page Noatak River info/logistics summary ($10, or free if bought with Yukon Wild). For more photos and captions from the trip http://www.bethjohnson.com/rt_soar_noatak_slide_show/index.htm
We hope you can join us for dinner before our meeting, at 5:30 PM.
We have a new pizzeria in Bellaire, very close to Bayland Community Center. It's Called Fuzzy's Pizza, at 5301-B Bissonnet. https://www.fuzzyspizzas.com/ Perhaps you can share a pizza with someone; they have about 20 different types. If not, they also offer pasta dinners, baked sandwiches, regular sandwiches, salads and desserts. Prices are reasonable. They're BYOB. Jim and I will bring wine - feel free to bring your own preferred beverage.
Call me at 713 447 6197 cell with any questions - we hope to see you!
