Canoe Trail Goliad

Here are notices from a sister organization, Canoe Trail Goliad, in the San Antonio area.  Their two annual flotillas have been attended by HCC folk over the years, and you may be interested too in improvements to other segments of the San Antonio River, which one of these days I swear I am going to paddle:

Highway Cleanup:
CTGwill be conducting our quarterly highway cleanupSaturday, June 30th.Volunteers will meet at the Auditorium at8:00 amto get bags, grabbers, and vests. We will clean US Highway 183 from Fannin Street south to FM 239. The cleanup should be done bynoon. To volunteer, please just show up or contact Charles Clapsaddle atcfclapsaddle@gmail.com.

Save the Dates:

  1. Fall Flotilla:November 3, 2018. We’veadded a Riverdale to US 59 segment to the Flotilla. More information will be sent later.
  2. Spring Flotilla:April 27, 2019.

Other interesting stuff:

Texas Water Safari
- CTG once again manned the final check point before the end of the Texas Water Safari. Over a period of four days, we checked in 82 boats. Despite bad bay conditions, all 82 boatswent on to finish the race at Seadrift.

Ferry Street Put-in and Take-out Improvements- San Antonio River Authority and Canoe Trail Goliad are upgrading the Ferry Street put-in and take-out to galvanized expanded metal steps. Steps will be four feet wide with a high railing on right and low railing on left, with “saddle” equipped with rolling bars for moving kayaks down left side of steps. We had hoped this project would have been done mid-April, 2018, but regulations slowed the project down.

SARA Filming
SARA stafffloatedand filmed segments of the San Antonia River, including Goliad Paddling Trail, the weekend of May 18 - 20, 2018. Goliad Paddling Trail segments filmed wereFM 239 to the Riverdale Bridge, Riverdale Bridge to the US 59 Landing, and US 59 to Goliad State Park Landing. Several CTG membersfloated these segments with SARA staff.
