SMR clean-up
Author Last Post
There will be a meeting of the Texas Rivers Protection Association, with the election for board members for 2018, on March 4th, the day after the San Marcos River clean-up. For more information, and directions to Tom Goynes' place, see below. If you participate in the clean-up and can stay overnight, please try to attend. It's everybody's river, and it can't protect itself.

TRPA Annual Meeting

On  Sunday, March 4 at  10 a.m. the Texas Rivers Protection

Association will hold it's annual meeting in the Cowboy

Chapel at the San Marcos River Retreat.

To get to the San Marcos River Retreat: coming from

Interstate 35 in San Marcos, get on Highway 80 and head

toward Luling for 1.8 miles. Take a right on Old Bastrop (aka

CR101, aka CR266 – it’s the new traffic light right after the

overpass). Take an immediate left onto county road 102. Go

1/2 mile on 102 and take a right on Pecan Park Dr. Keep

going straight past Pecan Park Campground (on your left) and

TG Canoes & Kayaks (on your right). The road will enter the

San Marcos River Retreat. Go

 But wait! There's more!

Dress for the weather (and bring one layer more!), bring gloves, lunch and some dry clothes in a dry bag, in case you get wet, and expect to get dirty. There will be hot showers available at Tom's and at Spencer's. Trash bags will be provided. The river is a class I to II, with a few easy class III rapids, so basic river skills are required. You would have to work hard to drown, but you might get dumped, and the water will be chilly. Various long grabbers, toy rakes, crab nets, etc., can come in handy. Be ready to run shuttle at 9:00 Saturday morning. We'll have breakfast, then go. Everyone will have to sign a TRPA waiver, and an HCC waiver, and non-ACA members will have to pay $5.00 for liability insurance. It's a small pain, and has not killed anyone yet.

This is a great way for new members to get to know the best folks in HCC, so come join us. If you have questions, requests for paddling partners, etc.,you can contact me at <fgohrt@gmail.com>. Let me know ASAP if you want to camp at Tom's, so we can reserve space near the put-in. SYOTR!
