Time for the Annual Kayak CBCs 2017! I have been leading these for about ten years now, and they are fun, good exercise, and an opportunity to participate in America's oldest citizen science project, the Audubon Christmas Bird Counts.
December 28, 2017 : Trinity River CBC, Trinity River 19.5 miles Meet at the SH 105 Bridge on the Trinity, east of Cleveland 07:00
December 30, 2017: San Jacinto Wilderness San Jacinto River, Peach Creek, Caney Creek 15 miles Meet at the Lake Houston Park Peach Creek Boat Launch 07:00
January 2, 2018: Old River CBC, Old River, Trinity River, Lake Charlotte, Champions Lake 14-17 miles, depending on route. Meet at Old River Bridge on FM 1409 in Old River 07:00
All three counts have restaurant countdown dinners (buy your own)
These counts are registered as official paddles with the Houston Canoe Club, so you can get a nice bunch of last minute miles, plus, you can get a good start on miles for 2018. Bayou City Waterkeeper is also participating in this event, so come out and support them.
All of these trips are a go now, with at least two people on each. I could use more participation on the Trinity and San Jacinto Wilderness in particular. More eyes get better results.
