FALL IS HERE

Mary,

I am so glad you mentioned this.  I am heading to Huntsville next week and the low temp on Saturday night is expected to be 38.
Since many of my paddling buddies are planning down river camping trips in the near future, I have been going through my gear and separating kayak camping gear from my camper camping gear. I recently took a down river kayak camping class where they covered types of gear "good and better". It was a very nice class and then they showed me how to packed my "new to me" sea kayak.  For those who do not know I just purchased a Wilderness Tempest Sea Kayak from a member at HASK.

One thing in the class they mentioned was to double bag everything in zip lock bags prior to putting it in your dry bag. They mentioned not to use the "ZIP" type. Use the press type bags. So I have been taking all my gear that would go with me on a kayak camping trip, that I do not need in my camper and double bagging it in press type zip lock bags, putting it in the dry bag so I will be mostly packed when the trip is announced. I am being very careful to try not to over pack and choosing carefully.

I have just purchased my head lamp, Dick's Sporting Goods had it on sale. The class mentioned that Black Diamond was the one to have and just so happens that Dick's had it on sale.

A funny story was that Dick's sent me an e-mail that the Kelty Tent was on sale at a special internet deal for $79.99- regularly over $100.00. I didn't get around to purchasing it that day.  The next morning I received another e-mail that the same tent was now on sale for $60.00. Well I purchased it then. Funny true story.  Amazing how they keep track of us!

One thing on my wish list is a Jet Boil. Happy Paddling - Julie
