For the past two years I have represented the Houston Canoe Club on the Bolivar Peninsula Nature Trail committee. There is a lot to see and do on the peninsula besides rental of a beach house and we are hoping to make the natural areas much more visible.Public comments are being solicited in support of some major grand money to make that happen so please chime in and write a letter of support if you can. Here is more official information from the committee:
This great project will link 13 nature and tourist sites across the Peninsula with improvements like trails, boardwalks, observation towers, and improved signage.
Right now, we’re in the running for $4.5 million in federal RESTORE Act funding. If secured, this funding will pay for miles of new or improved trails and boardwalks, observation towers and platforms at key sites, a new visitor center in High Island, park enhancements at Fort Travis, improved bay-side boat access, and much more. I can’t tell you how great this would be for the Peninsula.
But we need your help.
The Governor’s office is currently accepting public comments on the draft RESTORE Act project list. The Bolivar Peninsula Nature Trail is on that list, but the Governor’s office needs to hear from folks like you in order to make this great project a priority.
Can I count on you to send a short letter of support for the Bolivar Peninsula Nature Trail? Comments are being accepted via email until 5pm on Friday, June 30, 2017.
