Paddling the Neches Upriver
Author Last Post
Thanks John, after reading through the trip reports I have a better feel for the Neches. It looks like it's not too difficult to paddle upstream; it just takes a bit more effort. We'll give it a try since I haven't had any success finding a shuttle. I appreciate the help.
You can click "Resources" and "Trip Report Master Index" to find a dozen trip reports on the Neches River.  I've paddled it several times, and I don't recall there being much current, so I don't think an upstream paddle would be too difficult.  There are also outfitters in the area that will shuttle you for a fee.

There are stretches where there are steep banks and few sandbars, so finding a camping site can be challenging.  Choose early - don't wait until sunset.

Quoted TextMy wife and I are considering an overnight camping trip on the Neches at Crocket National Forest. To avoid shuttling we're thinking we could put in at Hwy 7, paddle upstream a few miles, camp over night, and paddle back the next morning. I'm wondering about the upstream paddling. How difficult would it be at average flow levels? Has anyone done it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
