A quick note here, hopefully a longer report coming for the newsletter, but want to share the information that the lake is currently very paddle-able, with the aquatic vegetation just coming back apparently killed back by the freeze some time ago.  Anyway, this is first I have been able to paddle from the boat launch on Pineland Drive, the whole way to Garrett Road.  AND, ta-da, the big news, the gate to the Garrett Road parking area was open, folks were parked there, and the water was open enough to be able to paddle up Carpenter's Bayou.  It's been years since that was navigable and accessible from Garrett Road (at least in my experience), so if you want to do that trip up Carpenter's Bayou, do it now before it gets choked or gated off again.  My group didn't have time to go up the bayou;  wish I'd known it was so accessible.

Nesting birds are doing their thing, not nearly so numerous as I've seen them in the past, but still plentiful.  Purple gallinules on the water, a bald eagle at the north end of the lake, many wonderful sights to see.
