John B. and I attended this meeting. While the plans for the Hogg Bird Sanctuary are still in the preliminary stage, there is no current inclusion of a canoe launch site. According to John, there were plans to build one some years ago and approved by the Houston Parks Dept. They have not been pursued, in part because of objections from Bayou Bend/MFAH and some neighbors. That launch site is included on Buffalo Bayou Paddle Trail maps.
The people in charge of planning the Hogg Sanctuary are seeking public input, and I think they may be open to including a launch site in their plans if we let them know that people want one. They are trying to juggle multiple interests, and we sure won't get a launch site if we don't make ourselves heard.
If you'd like to have another launch site on Buffalo Bayou, please send your thoughts to <info@houstonparksboard.org>. I suggest that you keep it brief, and certainly keep it nice. We want them on our side.
